Prayer Reading 7-2-2021
O Father God, Forgive our sins as we approach Your Throne. In you, O LORD, we have taken refuge. Let us never be put to shame. As our Rock and Fortress, deliver us from all troubles. You have taught us, and we declare Your marvelous deeds. Do not forsake us till we declare Your power to all. We have become a sign to many. We declare Your splendor all day long. Our mouth is filled with Your praise. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Psa 146:3-6 Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. (4) When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. (5) Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God. (6) He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them– he remains faithful forever. The psalmist instructed the congregation to put their trust in the One who is infinitely more powerful than mortal man, who cannot save. A person’s plans die with him. At death the spirit of man departs and the body returns to dust. So anyone who trusts in man will have no reason for praising. Meanwhile, blessed is anyone who trusts and hopes in the Sovereign Lord and King. The One is the Maker of heaven and earth, because…

Pro 10:6 Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked. Whereas a righteous person receives blessings, it is different with the wicked. Violence overwhelms his mouth. The idea is either that his mouth conceals or deceptively hides violence or that violence characterizes what a person says. As Jesus stated, “The evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart.” Our ability to control our aggression and words springs out of the meekness of our heart.

Heb 6:16-18 People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. (17) Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. (18) God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. The author of Hebrews affirmed that the messianic hope of salvation which the promise that is for us in Chrsot was sure, not only to Abraham, but also to the Christian heirs of what was promised. This is the strongest possible divine guarantee. Not only was it impossible for God to lie, but His ever truthful Word was supported in this case by His…

Exo 20:20 Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.” One who fears God should avoid the two extremes, namely, depending on one’s own righteousness (being self-righteous or legalistic) on the one hand and becoming loose in one’s living (being licentious) on the other.

Luk 11:34 Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. In spiritual creation God brings light to the hearts of those in darkness. Confronted with the risen Lord, we became a new creation. The light in believers’ lives is the knowledge of God’s salvation, a glory issuing from and seen in the face of Christ and reflected by us. When people were in the darkness of sin, they had no knowledge of God, no experience of His life and salvation.

Gal 3:1-2 You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. (2) I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? It is not by works of the law, but by “hearing with faith” that we become the recipients of God’s grace. The message is clear. “Hearing with faith” is how a believer receives salvation and the Holy Spirit. The Galatians were on the verge of turning again into the dead-end way of seeking salvation by their own efforts of keeping the law. Are you saved by good deeds or by faith alone?

Psa 16:5-6 LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. (6) The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. As Christians, our chosen portion and cup is the LORD. All our wealth and enjoyment rest in God. The Lord guards the boundaries of our inheritance. Lets ponder on how wisely and wonderfully our Father has planned every detail of our life, leading to an inheritance that is comprised entirely of good things. When we are living in fellowship with God, we can praise Him for the ordering of our lives. When we complain, we betray a lack of confidence in God’s wisdom, love and power.

1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. It is not money in itself which is spoken of, but the love of money. Money might be used in the service of the Lord in a variety of ways where only good would result. But here it is the inordinate desire for money that leads to sin and shame. One particular evil of the love of money is a wandering from the Christian faith. In their mad striving after wealth, men neglect spiritual things, and it becomes difficult to tell whether they were ever really saved at all.
