Psa 147:10-11  His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;  (11)  the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. He should be worshiped for the priority He gives to the spiritual over the physical. He is not awed by the horses in the cavalry unit, or for the strong, muscular legs of the infantrymen. Or to change the figure, He doesn’t take pleasure in the horses as they race, or the athletes as they contend in the Olympics. But the LORD is delighted with those who reverence Him and who hope in His mercy.

1Ti 1:5  The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Perhaps the most important thing to understand in this verse is that commandment does not refer to the Law of Moses or the Ten Commandments. This is brought out clearly in the NKJV: Now the purpose of the commandment is love. … Paul is saying that the goal or aim of the charge which he has just given Timothy is to produce not just orthodoxy but love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith. These things always follow when the gospel of the grace of God is preached.

Isa 66:1-2  This is what the LORD says: Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool. Where could you possibly build a house for me? And where would my resting place be?  (2)  My hand made all these things, and so they all came into being. This is the LORD’s declaration. I will look favorably on this kind of person: one who is humble, submissive in spirit, and trembles at my word. We need to remind ourselves that He is the universal Creator and Owner, enthroned in heaven, with the earth as His footstool. The dwelling place He desires is the heart of a person who is humble and contrite, and who trembles at His word.

Php 2:12-13  Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed–not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence–continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,  (13)  for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. Salvation is evidenced through the personal victory of the believers and the unity of the church. This outworking of the spiritual reality is to be done “with fear and trembling,” i.e. a work that is energized and animated through the fear of the Lord. God works in us so that we could do His good pleasure and accomplish His good purpose. Both divine enablement and human responsibility are involved in getting God’s work done. We become partners with God, laboring together with Him. God causes His own both willing and desirous to do His work.

Deu 7:11-12  Therefore, take care to follow the commands, decrees and laws I give you today.  (12)  If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the LORD your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your ancestors. If the nation of Israel is obedient to the Lord she will experience His covenantal love. Though God will not abandon the covenant because of His promises to the patriarchs, the people could forfeit the blessings of the covenant through their own disobedience. Likewise, the same is true to those under the New Covenant.

Exo 20:20  Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.” One who fears God should avoid the two extremes, namely, depending on one’s own righteousness (being self-righteous or legalistic) on the one hand and becoming loose in one’s living (being licentious) on the other.

Psa 147:11  the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love He doesn’t take pleasure in the horses as they race, or the athletes as they contend in the Olympics. He takes pleasure in the weak and the poor who fear Him and rely on His grace to live moment by moment.

Psa 91:1-2 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. (2) I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Life is perplexing. While a triumphant life is assured ensuing from God’s promises to guard and guide us through the evils of this life, it is also troubling at the same time due to the invariable presence of suffering and uncertainties. The fact that our victory in this world is so partial forces us to look more deeply at Psalm 91. God’s purpose for giving us both prosperity and adversity is in order that we fear Him. It is only in Christ where we find true rest in perfect peace and inner strength. “Fear of the Lord” denotes true worship, trusting and obeying God’s Will and humble service to magnify His…

Col_2:8  See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. To live, as we do, in a highly sophisticated, technological society brings with it many benefits and animal comforts. It is not surprising, therefore, that all sorts of occult philosophies and religions are gaining ground in society. Man, who is made in the image of God, must have a spiritual explanation for his own existence. Biblical faith affirms that God has revealed all that is necessary to bring us into a living relationship with Himself and to enable us to travel through this world into His presence.
