Heb 6:16-18  People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument.  (17)  Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.  (18)  God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. The author of Hebrews affirmed that the messianic hope of salvation which the promise that is for us in Chrsot was sure, not only to Abraham, but also to the Christian heirs of what was promised. This is the strongest possible divine guarantee. Not only was it impossible for God to lie, but His ever truthful Word was supported in this case by His…

Exo 20:20  Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.” One who fears God should avoid the two extremes, namely, depending on one’s own righteousness (being self-righteous or legalistic) on the one hand and becoming loose in one’s living (being licentious) on the other.

Luk 11:34  Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. In spiritual creation God brings light to the hearts of those in darkness. Confronted with the risen Lord, we became a new creation. The light in believers’ lives is the knowledge of God’s salvation, a glory issuing from and seen in the face of Christ and reflected by us. When people were in the darkness of sin, they had no knowledge of God, no experience of His life and salvation.

Gal 3:1-2  You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.  (2)  I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? It is not by works of the law, but by “hearing with faith” that we become the recipients of God’s grace. The message is clear. “Hearing with faith” is how a believer receives salvation and the Holy Spirit. The Galatians were on the verge of turning again into the dead-end way of seeking salvation by their own efforts of keeping the law. Are you saved by good deeds or by faith alone?

Psa 16:5-6  LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.  (6)  The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. As Christians, our chosen portion and cup is the LORD. All our wealth and enjoyment rest in God. The Lord guards the boundaries of our inheritance. Lets ponder on how wisely and wonderfully our Father has planned every detail of our life, leading to an inheritance that is comprised entirely of good things. When we are living in fellowship with God, we can praise Him for the ordering of our lives. When we complain, we betray a lack of confidence in God’s wisdom, love and power.

1Ti 6:10  For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. It is not money in itself which is spoken of, but the love of money. Money might be used in the service of the Lord in a variety of ways where only good would result. But here it is the inordinate desire for money that leads to sin and shame. One particular evil of the love of money is a wandering from the Christian faith. In their mad striving after wealth, men neglect spiritual things, and it becomes difficult to tell whether they were ever really saved at all.

Ecc 1:16-18  I said to myself, “Look, I have increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me; I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge.”  (17)  Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.  (18)  For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief. Solomon’s pursuit of worldly wisdom was as frustrating as chasing after the wind, and its acquisition, far from alleviating the depression created by his somber verdict, merely increased his mental anguish (sorrow) and sadness of heart (grief). Only spiritual understanding and wisdom wrought by the Holy Spirit in the hearts of true believers can lead to contentment, righteousness, love, joy, peace and transformed lives.

Rev 2:4-5  Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.  (5)  Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lamp-stand from its place. The Christians could look back to better days when our bridal love for Christ flowed warm, full, and free. While one is still sound in doctrine and active in service, the true motive of all worship and service is missing. Is this true as far as you are concerned? There is hope! Our Father and Lord Jesus is waiting for us to return. While we can be faithless, God shall remain faithful. He promises us to restore us when we repent.

2Co 9:8  And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. Anyone who performs any kind of service should do it with the humble recognition that it is God who empowers him. Then the glory will go to God—to whom it belongs. A man should not become proud no matter how highly gifted he is in Christian service. The gift did not originate by his own effort, but was given to him from above. In fact, he has nothing which he did not receive. All service should be performed so that God gets the credit.

Deu 29:29  The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law. Moses explains that “the secret things belong to the LORD”. This refers to the hidden causes which motivate God to discipline His people. The purpose of God’s revelation is not to gratify our curiosity but to secure our obedience. It is not speculative, but practical. Moses expects obedience to God from the people and reminds them that the law was given not only that the Israelites might know what is right, but that they might also do what is right.
